The Prophet (saw) said, ‘Du’a is worship itself’. Then the Prophet (saw) recited this verse,
Your Lord has proclaimed, Call upon Me, I will respond to you. Surely those who are too proud to worship Me will enter Hell in humiliation.
Don’t rush into your du’a without first praising Allah and then sending prayers upon our beloved Prophet (ﷺ)
The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
When any one of you have performed Salah (prayer) and wants to supplicate, let him begin with praising His Lord (swt) and glorifying Him, then send prayers upon the Prophet (ﷺ). Then he may supplicate for whatever he wishes.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
Every dua is kept back until you send blessings upon the Prophet.
Allahumma lakal-hamdu anta noorus-samawaati wal-ardi wa man fihinna, wa lakal-hamdu anta qayyimus-samawaati wal-ardi wa man fihinna, wa lakal-hamdu anta rabbus-samawaati wal-ardi wa man fihinna.
O Allah! For You is all Praise - You are the Light of the Heavens and the Earth and all that is in them; and for You is all Praise – You are the Guardian of the Heavens and the Earth and all that is in them; and for You is all Praise – You are the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth and all that is in them.

O Allah! You are the Truth, Your Promise is True, Your Speech is True, Your Meeting is True, Paradise is True, the Hellfire is True, the Hour is True, the Prophets are True and Muhammad (ﷺ) is True.
O Allah! to You I submit, in You I affirm my faith, upon I relied, for You I have argued, with Your Help I contend my adversaries, to You I have taken my judgement, so forgive me that I have done and what I have not done, what I have hidden and what I have disclosed. You are the Promoter, and You are the Delayer, There is none worthy of worship except You. There is no strength to resist evil and no power to do good except through Allah.
It is NOT compulsory to perform wudu before making du’a. However, performing wudu is a way of purifying yourself and getting into the correct mindset for speaking to Allah.
Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari (ra) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ), after the battle of Hunain, called for water, performed wudu, then raised his hands and said: ‘O Allah! Forgive Ubaid Abi Amir!’
It is NOT compulsory to face the Qiblah while making du’a. However, there are reports that the Prophet ﷺ faced the qiblah when making du'a.
‘Umar (ra) narrated, “..then the Prophet (saw) turned to face the qiblah, then he stretched forth his hands and started to cry out to his Lord”
Raising your hands in du’a is a Sunnah. Always remember the following hadith every time you raise your hands:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
Indeed your Lord - Blessed and Almighty is He - is Shy and Most Generous. He is shy when His servant raises his hands to Him (in du’a) to turn them away empty
Don’t rush into your du’a without first praising Allah (ﷻ) and then sending prayers upon our beloved Prophet (ﷺ):
Describe to Him what’s on your mind. Tell Him how you feel. Be very precise in your dua.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said,
When one of you calls upon Allah (ﷻ), let him hope for the greatest of things. Verily, nothing has any greatness over Allah.
When My servants ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about Me: I am truly near. I respond to one’s prayer when they call upon Me. So let them respond ˹with obedience˺ to Me and believe in Me, perhaps they will be guided ˹to the Right Way˺.
Our parents have sacrificed so much to raise us. We can never repay them for their kindness. However, we can do our best to honour them and treat them well.
Allah (ﷻ) says in the Quran;
For your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And honour your parents. If one or both of them reach old age in your care, never say to them ˹even˺ ‘ugh,’ nor yell at them. Rather, address them respectfully.
And be humble with them out of mercy, and pray, “My Lord! Be merciful to them as they raised me when I was young."
One of the best things that you can do is to constantly make sincere dua for them, even if they are no longer with us. The Prophet s.a.w. encouraged us to keep praying for our parents. Indeed, prayers will continue to benefit them.
When a person dies, his deeds come to an end, except for three: A continuous charity, knowledge that others benefited from, and a pious son who (continues to) pray for him.
It is encouraged to make du’a for other people!
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said,
No Muslim servant supplicates for his brother behind his back but that an angel says, “And for you the same.”
It is also important to make du’a for the Ummah in general. As the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, ‘Whoever seeks forgiveness for the believing men and women, Allah will record a good deed for him by each man and woman’. [Tabarani]
O Allah, forgive the Muslim men, and the Muslim women, and the believing men, and the believing women, those who are alive, and those who have died.
Selling alcohol and pork, gambling, stealing, and taking bribes are all examples of impermissible sources of income. It is stated in the Qur'an:
O believers! Intoxicants, gambling, idols, and drawing lots for decisions are all evil of Satan’s handiwork. So avoid them so you may be successful.
Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
People! Allah is far from all imperfection, and only accepts good deeds. Verily God has commanded the believers the same as the Messengers.
O messengers! Eat from what is good and lawful, and act righteously. Indeed, I fully know what you do.
Allah says in the Noble Quran;
So eat from the good, lawful things which Allah has provided for you, and be grateful for Allah’s favours, if you ˹truly˺ worship Him ˹alone˺.
Ibn Abbas narrated that Sa'd b. Abi Waqas said:
O Messenger of Allah, ask Allah to keep me among those whose supplications are answered by him!
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
Sa'd, eat what is lawful and Allah will answer your supplications. By Allah, if a person eats a morsel of what is forbidden, his Du'a is rejected for forty days. He who consumes what is illicit is the one who most deserves the Fire.
